DEATS
A mobile application centered on providing the latest details and discounts for local food chains and restaurants.
Objective
Create an application on the mobile device that is targeted at a niche audience and is centered around one of the three options:
-
Calendar
-
Notepad
-
To-do list

Must take a design-centric approach to user interface and user experience design centered around a visual communications perspective, rather on one focused solely on development.
Solution
My solution to the given task was to create an application for those interested in discounts and details on limited-time items in the food industry. Deats is a mobile application centered on providing the latest details (otherwise known as Deats) on discounts or deals from local food chains and restaurants.

Highlighted Features
View the Deats

First you click on the "New Deats" arrow, Then you are taken to the "New Deats" page. You can click on the available Deats. You can click on one of the options and a page with information such as the start date and end date of the deal, the ingredients, the closest location, and reviews from other Deats users!
Add to the Calendar

To add a Deat to your calendar, you simply click the heart button beneath the image and it will be added. To view your calendar, you can either click the notification that pops up when you add something, or open it through the hamburger menu. There you can see all the Deats you've added, and when they start.
Process
My solution hit me later than I would have liked, but after playing around with shapes, I realized I could base my system off of the bright and playful idea of discount stickers. Since Deats is about informing people on discounts on food, I thought of making the application sticker-inspired. I originally came up with the idea of incorporating a fork into the logo, but this motif ended up setting me back. Although it was a fun idea, it lacked substance, putting me at a standstill when brainstorming.
